Family friendly dining near Colonial Williamsburg

Dining options in and around Colonial Williamsburg are many, but it still often seems difficult to find a place to grab a light, inexpensive lunch, especially for a large family. But a few years ago we stumbled upon a new place called Stephanos Pizza and Subs and since then we’ve made it one of our go to places when spending the day in CW.

Stephanos offers the typical Italian-American cuisine including pizza, lasagna, subs, and salads. The pizza is very good, as evidenced by the many tables with hungry tourists digging into their pies.

I love a good toasted turkey sub, and Stephanos makes a nice one, especially if you ask for extra mayo, making it nice and messy.

But our favorite dish to get at Stephanos is their garlic cheese bread. They put on lots of cheese and serve it with a big side of pizza sauce. Here’s a tip: shake a generous amount of parmesan cheese in the sauce, stir it all in, dip your cheese bread, and enjoy!

As mentioned, Stephanos is a great place to take the kids. They offer all the usual suspects kids love – pizza, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and more.

The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. They offer booths and tables. If you have a big group, you can usually find a couple tables to slide together to accommodate your group. And if you prefer a quieter meal, sit on the entrance side where they have several booths for two.

Stephanos is located at 110 S Henry St, right behind Wythe Candy and Merchants Square. They are open Sunday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
