Birmingham’s Beer and Baseball Experience

Regions Field (pictured above and below at right) and Good People Brewing Company know how to show Birmingham Barons fans a good time. The Thursday night promotions and entertainment continue to draw crowds of Michael Jordan proportions.

Good People Taproom: Pre-Game

The beloved Good People Brewing Company was the first to open in Birmingham, and the company was heavily involved in the campaign to lift the prohibition-era restrictions on brewing beer in Alabama (Free the Hops). Before they knew their future neighbors would be the Birmingham Barons they expanded and opened a taproom. When the Barons moved in, the taproom became the place to hang before a game. Be sure to stop in and try some local beer (some of the highest rated in the South according to BeerAdvocate), and play a game of cornhole, or just mix and mingle with the many people who have the same brilliant idea.

Regions Field: Birmingham Barons Ball Game

Tickets: Go ahead and buy them online, or there will just be another line you’ll have to wait in. Thirsty Thursday games can sell out, so get your tickets as soon as you know you want to go. General Admission/Berm tickets are the cheapest at $7 and near the beer garden.

Parking: Get there early and look for free parking on the street. In some areas they have a golf cart valet that will take you to the stadium and return you to your vehicle (for tips). Other parking can range from $5 (official Barons lots) to $10 (private lots).

Food & Drink: Look out for food trucks for some quality grub, or head to the centerfield entertainment area where there’s a full bar and a Dreamland BBQ. There’s also some premium food in the right field corner of the stadium, a cantina, and regular ball park fare around every corner. I went to the first Thirsty Thursday at this stadium and spent most of the game standing hangrily in line for a brat and beer while my Good People buzz wore off. Thankfully, the crowd concessions options have expanded and lines have shortened—but I’ll still be on the lookout for food trucks immediately once I enter the Good People, Regions Field vicinity. I’ll never go hangry again!!!

Thursday Night Concert Series: Pre-game concert in the courtyard

Mardi Gras in April: Crawfish Boil

Another missed Mardi Gras season makes me homesick for the coast. Bless you Barons for hosting another round of Mardi Gras-related activities in April and throwing a crawfish boil in the courtyard at Regions Field! On the glorious Thursday of April 23, Barons patrons can enjoy a Barons baseball game, the usual Thirsty Thursday drink promotion, the Thursday Night Concert Series, AND the Mardi Gras in April event.
