Put your parka away and pack your shorts. It’s time for a white sand Christmas on the beaches of the Sunshine State. Take a break from a harsh winter, and come laugh at the locals that still think it’s cold enough to wear a coat. It’s time for Christmas in Florida.
We really feel bad about the long winters in the more northern states. Seriously, it just looks uncomfortable. All that gear. Long johns! No, thank you. We invite you to opt out of the cold, dirty snow this Christmas. Hit the beach instead. Where do you think Santa goes to warm up when all his work is done? He’s the ultimate snowbird.
Romance at Rosemary Beach
Dutch colonial inspired Rosemary Beach is the perfect destination for a romantic Christmas getaway. Stay at The Pearl, a boutique hotel in quaint downtown Rosemary Beach. Just steps away are lovely restaurants and shops, like The Summer Kitchen Café and The Hidden Lantern (hello … this sounds like a magical place from a Harry Potter novel). Who needs a Christmas tree when you can sip wine with your sweetie under twinkling starlight instead? Get moving with a bike rental or arrange a cozy beach bonfire with Sea Oats Beach Service (fire attendant included).
A Destin Family Vacation
Rent a place big enough for the whole family in Destin and see the dazzling, decked-out … uh, decks of all of the boats in the annual Destin Holiday Boat Parade (December 11) at the Destin Harbor. Bring the kids to the beach to build a sandman or visit the Destin Commons where the Bass Pro Shop hosts Santa Wonderland, complete with elves and reindeer. Don’t pretend you’re not as excited as the kids. No one believes you. Shovel sand (recreationally) instead of shoveling snow to get to your mailbox.
See a Historic Southern Site by Candlelight
Whether your Christmas vacation is focused on romance or family, don’t miss the Wesley House in Eden Garden State Park. Pack a picnic, and take a drive on Scenic Highway 30-A (about 37 minutes from Destin) to see the Southern dream home (Seriously, I dream of rocking my way into old age on a porch like this—an always-full pitcher of super sweet tea close at hand). On December 20 there will be a Christmas Candlelight Tour through the park leading to the Wesley House. Different groups decorate each room and guests get to vote on their favorite!
